Came in on a Friday early evening after work, was seated right away without wait. Place is clean and nicely decorated. Place is similar to shabu zone but in my opinion I like shabu zone better. This place was still good, including a wide variety of noodles, veggies, meats, seafood, tofu, mushrooms etc and much much more. You have a good selection of base broth including tonkatsu, sukiyaki and many more. For dessert they have shave ice with apple green jelly, blueberry things that burst in your mouth, other types of jelly, red bean, condensed milk topping, and other toppings as well, gummy bears too! I would return. Price point is about the same as shabu zone. Lunch is cheaper. Service was good, and there's plenty of parking
My new favorite shabu shabu place! Came on a Sunday around 6pm and it was busy, but we were still seated immediately. I loved the modern aesthetic! It felt very clean inside. Our server was very nice and helpful! Even the manager was going all around the restaurant helping out wherever it was needed, which I really appreciated. My table of 4 each got different broths, so I got to try quite a few: Shabu En Signature, Tonkotsu, Soondubu, and Sukiyaki. They were all good, but the most popular was the Sukiyaki. One person even switched their broth to it, which is free of charge. Also, I would say the descriptions of the broths were pretty accurate. We tried a bunch of the meats, but I don't really remember what was what. All I know is that they were all pretty good, but very thin. I didn't really mind, but I feel like some people would complain about that. Shabu shabu meat is technically supposed to be very thin so that it cooks fast, but when we went, it was thinner than I've ever seen in a restaurant. The buffet items had a great variety and are part of why I love it here (aside from the individual pots)! I honestly care more about those options than the meat. There was a bunch of veggies, seafood, and noodles. I enjoyed trying everything to figure out what I wanted more of. The veggies were very fresh and the noodles I tried were really good (especially the wide glass noodles). The only things that were not that great were the frozen oysters and crab, which was honestly expected. They were kinda mushy when I ate them, but it's also possible I overcooked them I guess. Ultimately, I loved almost everything I tried here! And the complimentary shaved ice for dessert is a really nice touch! I left feeling full and extremely satisfied! I can't wait to come back to try some of their a la carte options next time!
I was so excited to try the new hot pot place and it did not disappoint. The selection of meats, seafood, vegetables and soup bases were good and I also enjoyed the shaved ice for dessert, although I think some fresh fruit as toppings in it would be good as well. The service was quick and they explained the menu really well as well. It didn't feel too crowded in the store and everything was bright and felt clean. You can ask them for ladles and strainers as well to get to your hot pot ingredients easier. The lunch prices are really good for the weekdays lunch and the dinner prices are not too bad.
5/5 stars Shabu En on Bellaire & Ranchester @ Welcome Shopping center. Came here on a Sat. evening for my hubby birthday dinner. $31.99 per person AYCE hot pot. Wanted to see what was all the hype about. The quality of meat was pretty good. I book a reservation a day before for 3 people @ 6:00pm. We were greeted and seated right away by the hostess. Chase was our waiter. He was amazing. Great customer service, explained everything very well, & very attentive. He also dressed up as a lobster and brought out a small brownie cake. Overall the food was great & I like there shaved ice dessert. I love it when you have your own mini hot pot so you don't have to share with others. My favorite meat was #2 Fatty Beef & #8 Beef Short Rib. The meats are sliced very thinly so it cooks very fast in the mini hot pot.
Shabu En has now become my favorite all you can eat hot pot spot to go to. Extra points because they let you change your broth favor without any extra charge. We like the tom yum and mala broth. I love all the difference dipping sauces they provide. The shrimp they have are always big and plump. My kids love the shaved ice dessert. Their cocktails are also pretty decent as well.
This is a really nice looking restaurant! It's really clean, and the service is great. We went for dinner on a Sunday and while we got there before the rush, it did end up getting really full. However, there's plenty of options and everything is kept replenished. Our server was really nice and helpful, and always made sure to offer more meats and broths. I had the mala sichuan broth which had a nice spice level and tasted great with the various cuts of meats and vegetables. I look forward to coming back.
Shabu En is honestly where it's at! The restaurant is a lot nicer than other AYCE places I've been to and I like that it's not too overcrowded (we went at 6:30-7). Service was sooooo good, I believe her name was Cristy or Christy (sorry if that's wrong!) and she did an excellent job. Refills, broth changes, meats, she was on top of it! Meats were pretty good, I'm not picky so we just got whatever! Everything tasted similar to other shabu places I've been. They have a good amount of stuff to add into your pot, my faves being the fish cakes, rice cakes and noodles! I also like the broth choices, I tried two. I first got the Sichuan broth, which was so good but too spicy for me, so I traded it in for the tonkotsu broth with spicy on the side! That was a much better decision so you can control your spice level. At the end of your meal, you have the choice to get shaved ice! This is definitely something new I haven't seen at other places! My only recommendation to the restaurant would be to add fresh fruits for the shaved ice and evaporated milk, I'm positive customers would like it. I will definitely be coming again in the foreseeable future and I suggest you do too!
Came here for lunch by the suggestion of another. Shabu En is one of many of the newer hot pot restaurants that have popped up in Chinatown. Here they do individual hot pots, which is nice when you want full control of your experience. Choose your soup base, proteins, veggies, sauces, and seafood to completely customize your experience. Of course I recommend the all you can eat option, which is a lot more limited during lunch time, but there's plenty of tasty options. I started with the tonkotsu broth, which I quite enjoyed. I love how you can control the hotness of your burner! There's another fun option here which is adding additional items not included in the hotpot experience. This includes lobster, oysters, abalone, and uni. The first three, you can choose the cooked version or have it served raw to cook yourself in the hotpot. Lastly, don't forget the shaved ice dessert! I was so happy to find out this was included! I love the popping boba, jellies, and mini mochi options as well as various sweet sauces. What a perfect refreshing and cool was to end a super hot meal! Don't forget the complimentary hot corn tea!
From the minute my group and I walked in, we were in awe of how beautiful the interior was! Super clean, modern, and aesthetic. $21.99 for lunch, and I believe it was soooooo worth it, especially with all the high quality ingredients they provided. The seafood area was lit- what stood out to me was the shrimp (HUGE), baby octopus, crab, and swai fish. They had a lil kimchi bar too, and the cabbage and radish were goooood. I appreciated the wide variety of add ins they had available. Had to make a couple trips for sure. I got the spicy tonkotsu as my broth, and I actually wasn't too focused on the taste of it because I only really cared for the toppings, like the meat of course looool. Even though we were limited to just the first 7 meats, we thoroughly enjoyed the selection. I loved finishing the meal off with their shaved ice. Once again, with their dessert, they had a generous amount of toppings to choose from. Our server came to our table every now and then to take our orders and replenish our broth but never refilled our waters. We had to ask another employee for some more as we were waiting a pretty long time and were getting parched from all the sodium we were consuming haha. Other than that, it was still a very pleasurable experience, and we will definitely be back! Big lot in the plaza with ample amounts of space. Lots of different places to explore in the area!
Best hotpot I've ever had! I really enjoyed my time at Shabu En - they have a wide variety of meats to choose from, a seafood, noodle, vegetable, sauce, and dessert bar. Best of all - everything is one price! There's no premium meat upcharge, and pricing is $31/person for dinner I believe, which is pretty good. The meat is served fresh, not frozen! Many AYCE hotpot places will freeze the meats as rolls and you just help yourself. I felt like the high quality of food extends to the food bars as well. Ex. Most hotpot places will just do napa cabbage or spinach as vegetable options, but Shabu En has baby bok choy amongst other options. Shabu En has an upscale feel with its modern and nicely decorated interior. Things are kept clean, well stocked, and all the items at the bar look fresh and not like they've been sitting out for hours, as some things do at buffets. I came on a Sunday night and it was packed - I would definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. One piece of constructive criticism is that I'd recommend some sort of system for clearing the meat platters. They take up a lot of space on the table, and if the waiters are busy (like ours was) it's too much to wait for them to clear it for us. We ended up bussing most of our own meat platters to clear the table, but I wish there was some sort of disposal system (a conveyer belt would be really cool) to aid in clearing plates. Overall really great spot!
